Happy #SupportYourSisterSaturday! We were hoping you could take a break from all that resisting we know you are doing and check out this weeks thing you CANNOT miss!!! ‘The Fabulous Monk‘!!! From the creative mind of Malie Mason and co. this project is sure to make you giggle and probably audibly say “What?!?!” Here’s some words from the creator herself!
“I got the idea for ‘The Fabulous Monk’ through a vision that was at first just scattered images. I was really stuck creatively so I started doing hours and hours of meditation at a studio called Unplug. I pretty much lived there. After my inner council got over the fear of my writing being too “weird,” I wrote it and sent it to my brilliant friend Nick Nakahara, who loved the bizarre nature. We had a blast making it! Every single person who helped with this project; Jan Lashly, Jeff Reeser, Mitch Eakins, and so many more, gave it so much light and made it even more delightfully strange.
Really fun things I learned making this short:
-I began to notice ways to incorporate everything in my life into Fab Monk. For example, at the bar I work at, the lychees we use look like balls. I always secretly thought that was funny. I thought, ‘wouldn’t it be funny if she ripped someone’s balls off?!’ So we used lychees and real human blood for the balls. Eating them was improv. Yummy yummy improv.
-Smoke in a can is my new favorite.
-Always have what is best for the project in mind and manifest exactly what you want. I really wanted experienced stunt actors. It turns out, 90% of the people I wanted to cast were experience in stunt choreo and already had routines! Be specific in what to manifest weather it’s a feeling or something you want.
-Be specific in what your role is so people don’t get confused on set.
-Make concept art. It really helps! I wish I made more drawings for this project!
